Atchafalaya Basin Swamp Tour

My cousin and her family came to visit us the past few days. So, we decided to do a swamp tour on the Atchafalaya Basin.

We chose McGee’s for several reasons: 1) We’ve heard good things. 2) My husband and I have been on a few swamp tours on a lake near our house, but have never done one in the Atchafalaya. So going somewhere new sounded good. 3) Their tour boats have taller sides than other boats we’ve been on, so it felt like a good choice for our kids’ first boat experience. 4) It’s only 15-ish minutes from our house!

We ended up having a(n unexpected) private tour on a really beautiful day!

I could’ve stayed on the boat all day. It’s so relaxing and the swamp is a different kind of beautiful, even in winter.

Of course, viewing wildlife was a highlight. We saw a mama and baby great horned owls, ospreys, and some gators (still a little chilly for a plethora of gators).

And we left with some fun souvenirs!

Then, we drove to Poche’s in Breaux Bridge for a yummy lunch.
